Course Description

Our Intensive Plumbing course is ideal for keen DIY’s, Self Builders, multi-skilled trades people or people who are considering a new career in the plumbing industry, looking for a basic introduction to the plumbing industry. With your personal work area and seasoned advice from our experienced professionals on how to execute key plumbing techniques, you will be guaranteed a professional finish to each and every one of your plumbing works.

At CBWA, we take pride in offering a plumbing curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with practical skills. This course will provide you with an insight into the plumbing industry and teach you lots of new skills, working with the latest plumbing materials by John Guest Speedfit, Hep2O, as well as traditional copper solder and compression fittings. Throughout this short course, you will be taught a wide spectrum of topics, including plumbing system design, installation techniques, maintenance, and repair, allowing you to gain a deep understanding of plumbing principles and develop the proficiency required for real-world applications.

Providing a memorable & highly personal experience to our students is what matters most. That is why the course has a maximum of 7 students at a time, so that each student gets enough guidance and tuition from our tutors, and you pass the course with all of the required knowledge and understanding. This allows you to ask all questions on your mind and get plenty of one-to-one instruction.

As training providers, another important thing for us is that, by the end of the course, we will have built your skillset to start doing your own work and projects. To ensure that, we employ only the best tutors: friendly & professional tradespeople who have decades of trade experience. Therefore, our tutors have up to date industry knowledge and lots of experience in training people and can pass on all of the expertise and site experience to our learners. By the end, you will have been trained in all aspects of basic plumbing skills.

Course Content

We will show you how to measure and how to cut copper pipe safely and accurately using industry recognised tools. You will then learn the art of soldering copper joints. This can be tricky to start with, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes tremendously satisfying, and it paves the way for you to move onto the next stage of the course.

As noted above, your tutor will demonstrate different bends typically used in plumbing. You will be given the chance to use these when you fit your bathroom suite

Your tutor will explain the clipping distances and show you how and where to fix them in your work area

You will learn how to successfully use different types of compression and plastic push fit fittings

This part of the course is a firm favourite and learning the skills to complete this task can save you money

You will be shown how to drain a heating system and how to fit a radiator. This is a typical job undertaken by a plumber on a daily basis

Usually something completed at the end of the course, you will learn how to change washers and how to repair leaking taps

Detailed Itinerary

1. You will start off by learning how to solder copper and achieve leak free joints. You will also be shown how to use compression joints and plastic push fit fittings

  • Your tutor will then demonstrate how to use a pipe bender and train you to use them

2. Once you have mastered these basics, you will then move to the next stage, which is fitting a bathroom suite that includes a bath, basin and toilet.

  • Your tutor will show you how to set pipework out and how to fix pipe clips, and you will then put the knowledge you have learned into practice by first fixing all of the pipework ready for your bathroom suite. All pipework in your bay is soldered, and all valves and taps are fitted using compression fittings.
  • To ensure you are working under realistic conditions, your bathroom suite will be connected to the water supply and tested for leaks. Once you have tested your first fix pipes, and have plumbed in your bathroom suite, you will be shown how to test your pipework and make any necessary adjustments.

3. You will be taught how to connect your bathroom to soil and waste pipes in situ, which is what we have here at CBWA in order to reflect a typical real-life scenario that you may come across when fitting a bathroom suite in your own home

4. The next stage will include how to fix a radiator to the wall in your work bay, and then connecting valves and then pipework. Your radiator will be connected to a gravity fed system and you will learn how to fill, test and drain down the system to replicate a typical scenario that you may come across in your own home

5. Your tutor will also show you how to fault find on taps and traps and show you where faults can occur. You will be shown how to repair leaking and dripping taps and cover the main faults that occur with taps

For CSCS card training and Health & Safety courses for CSCS, feel free to check out our 1 Day Site Safety Course (CSCS test incl.).  However, for pursuing a career in plumbing from the very beginning, we recommend our Level 2 Plumbing Course, which delves deeper into the theoretical aspects of plumbing, providing you with more valuable knowledge of the trade along with extensive practical experience!
