Course Description

This City & Guilds Level 2 industry recognised plumbing qualification is specifically designed for beginners looking to take their first step towards a career in plumbing, or people with plumbing knowledge looking for an industry recognised technical certificate. The course encompasses the knowledge & skills required to work as an improver/plumber’s mate.

This is the main route in to be a fully qualified plumber or heating engineer (Level 3 qualification is needed after completing this plumbing/heating course in order to class yourself as a qualified plumber). However, a lot of students complete this course and then specialise in domestic-based plumbing rather than going down the full level 3 heating route.

This course is a City & Guilds Level 2 qualification and is benchmarked at the same level as a GCSE A-C grade. This course is delivered via our blended learning model of delivery. The practical training will be completed in 20 weeks spread over the duration of Tuesday's and Thursday's in our evening course, which is great for those who need flexibility around their working schedules. The theoretical study will be accessed via our on-line learning portal. Our delivery has been designed this way to reduce travel costs for candidates and minimize time spent away from work and family life and to provide a truly inclusive training package.

This course has a maximum of 8 students at a time, so that each student gets enough guidance and tuition from our tutors, ensuring a pass of the course with all of the required knowledge and understanding. It allows you to ask questions on your mind and get plenty of one-to-one instruction throughout the duration of the course.

As training providers, the most important thing for us is that by the end of the course we will have built your confidence to start doing your own work, and to be fully proud of your projects. That is why here at CBWA, we employ only the best tutors: friendly, time-served & professional tradespeople who have decades of trade experience. Therefore, our tutors have up to date industry knowledge and lots of experience in training people and can pass on all of their expert knowledge to the next generation of plumbers.

Delve into the intricacies of plumbing systems, master welding techniques, and gain valuable insights into the construction industry. With CBWA, you're not just learning; you're building a foundation for a rewarding future in these in-demand trades.

Detailed Itinerary

The practical side of things will take half of the time that you will be training with us for your Level 2 Plumbing Certificate. With a total of 41 practical assessments, we urge any of our students to not feel intimidated by the number, and to instead trust our expertise and reputation.
Firstly, practical work starts with the health and safety requirements and gets progressively more captivating as the course progresses through electrical wiring to plugs, sockets and junction boxes, then to pipework installations using copper, plastic and steel pipes and fittings.

Secondly, there are thirteen preparations with pipework processes. Specialist preparations are undertaken which cover the following: steel pipes to a radiator, plastic pipes for two radiators, a guttering installation with down pipe and a complete plastic soil pipe with waste pipes; all completed by joining pipes, by soldering joints and compression joints.

Thirdly, a cloakroom is part of the installation process, with a wash hand basin, a toilet and a cistern, all piped in copper with hot and cold water services. Additionally, a hot water copper cylinder is installed and supplied with water from a cold water supply cistern.

Lastly, a full bathroom is installed in a special work bay comprising of bath, basin and pedestal, W.C. suite and a radiator piped from a combination boiler jig. This includes the following:

  • First fix pipes under the floorboards and connection to a mock combination central heating boiler jig
  • Second fix blending valve to the bath and service valves connected to the wash hand basin and toilet.
