Course Description

Welcome to CBWA's Level 1 Plastering Course, where aspiring plastering professionals embark on a transformative journey towards mastering the art and science of plastering. This foundational course is meticulously designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of plastering techniques, materials, and safety protocols. Whether you're a novice seeking to enter the construction industry or a seasoned professional looking to enhance your skills, our Level 1 Plastering Course is tailored to meet your needs.

We have structured this Level 1 course in such a way that it works out to approximately 90% hands-on practical and only 10% classroom-based theory, as we will be sending out a reading pack for you to complete most of the theory at home, at your own pace. This way, we manage to offer you great value for your time and money, as it allows you to quickly finish an in-depth course without skimping on the essentials, as nearly all the time you spend with us on this plastering course will be invested towards being taught practical tasks in the workshops at our local training centre.

Our comprehensive Level 1 Plastering program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in plastering. This is why we use the latest products from British Gypsum and Knauf , including board finish, multi finish and drywall adhesive. Whilst on our course, you are trained using high-quality tools manufactured by Ox, Refina and Marshall Town.

In the 10 Day Accredited Plastering Course, we will train you to the level required to easily pass two NOCN Practical Plastering Assessments, and one health & safety test. After passing all of these, you will know how to do the following: preparing background surfaces, mixing plaster, fixing plasterboards, fixing beads, skimming, direct bond (dot & dab), applying undercoat plaster, applying rendering, and many more! Successful completion of this course will give you direct access to the CSCS test (green card).

Being the quickest entry point to start working on site as a plasterer’s mate, this starter Level 1 course is ideal if you do not feel ready to commit to the full Level 2 Plastering 8-week course yet, or if you have a time-sensitive opportunity lined up to start working on a site nearby; which is why the contents of this Level 1 course also cover the site safety aspect taught in our Health & Safety Course, allowing you to sit your CSCS test at our computer suite, which is included in the price

Intensive, Level 1 or Level 2 ??

We often have people ask us what their future journeys would look like after completing either of our three course options. While the journey to become a professional tradesperson can be different for everyone, the ideal career path to becoming fully qualified would often resemble the steps below:

  • Gain a Level 1 Qualification
  • Gain a green CSCS operatives card
  • If you want to work on a big housing site, then look for on site opportunities to gain experience
  • Gain a Level 2 Qualification
  • Gain a Level 2 NVQ
  • Gain a blue CSCS card

Aside from the time commitment, there is a noticeable difference between our Intensive, Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

If the 5 Day Plastering Course is a great workshop opportunity to finesse your DIY skills and learn face to face how to do your own projects with ease, and the 8-week course at our local academy is the best way to become a qualified professional plasterer in record time, this 10 day course is the perfect middle ground: packed with the very same DIY skills, while covering some of the theoretical aspects needed to work on site, it allows you to get a wider grasp of the plastering trade without feeling neither lacking nor overbearing on your time schedule.

While our 8-week plastering course is more than enough to become a qualified plasterer, and enables you to further pursue an NVQ and a blue CSCS card, the advantage of this course is that the 2 extra weeks from this Level 1 course can potentially make a big difference when it comes to your employability, skills, knowledge and confidence as a tradesperson, and will most definitely be putting you ahead of your peers who have only finished the Level 2 Diploma. For that reason, if you start as an absolute beginner, it is always worth pursuing the Level 1 Award before moving onto the Level 2 Diploma.

If you choose to pursue the Level 2 Plastering with us as well after having finished your Level 1, we also offer a budget-friendly discount of £100 to upskill to the next level!

Upon completion, this NOCN Level 1 industry recognised course will grant you a wide understanding of the skills and knowledge required on how to start working as a plasterer, as the course is specifically designed for students with little to no experience. Most students leave this course and go on site to get experience working alongside a team of plasterers and gain hands-on site experience, or hop straight on a Level 2 Plastering Course to become fully qualified.

If you do not wish to pursue a career in plastering, or if the theoretical side of this course does not interest you at all but you still wish to learn plastering for your DIY projects or home renovations, we recommend our Intensive Plastering Course, which covers the most important techniques of the basic practical skills needed to complete plastering works. It's an incredibly practical and cost-effective choice for personal projects.
